MIRI: The city is once again shrouded by haze, less than two weeks after the Air Pollutant Index (API) indicated that it was at the moderate and healthy level due to the recent open burning activities.

In less than 24 hours, the API readings at Miri Industrial Training Institute (ILP Miri), SK Kuala Baram II and Miri shot up above 100.

“Based on our patrol earlier today (yesterday), the haze is definitely hovering over Miri,” said Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, adding that the source appeared to be from four locations, namely Permyjaya, city area, Lutong and Taman Tunku.

“We have detected open burning activities within these areas during our patrol at 8.30am today (yesterday),” said Law.

Meanwhile, yesterday was the first day of the Primary School Evaluation Test (UPSR) for Primary Six pupils. Despite the sudden increase in API, the public examination appeared unaffected.
