KUCHING: Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received two courtesy visits on Tuesday (March 12) at the Astana.

According to the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen), the first visit was from the committee of the Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration Council at the Sarawak Level Year 1445H/2024M.

The purpose was to extend an invitation to Wan Junaidi and Fauziah as honoured guests at the event.

Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications and the permanent chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Celebration Committee, said the Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration Council at the Sarawak Level Year 1445H/2024M is scheduled for March 27 at the Al Kauthar Mosque, Gedong.

Present at the courtesy visit were the director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Datuk Khalidi Ibrahim; the chairman of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Misnu Taha; and the Resident of Samarahan Division, Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang.

Following that, Wan Junaidi received another courtesy visit from the vice-chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit.

The purpose was to seek approval for Wan Junaidi’s appointment as the university’s chancellor, to be forwarded to the Ministry of Higher Education and the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

During the Unimas courtesy visit, Prof Ahmad Hata and his delegation provided explanations on several Unimas developments, especially regarding the chancellor’s lecture arrangements.

Additionally, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were invited to attend the Iftar ceremony with the Unimas chancellor and the Unimas convocation ceremony, expected to take place from Nov 4 to 8.

Among those present during the Unimas courtesy visit were the chairman of the Unimas Board of Directors, Tan Sri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie; deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) of Unimas, Professor Dr Al-Khalid Othman; deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib; deputy vice-chancellor (Leadership and Development) Professor Datu Mohd Fadzil Abd Rahman; and the Registrar of Unimas, Azlan Ramli.
