SERIAN: The long-awaited Serian Type 3 Health Clinic, now fully completed, is set to open its doors by the first quarter of 2025, offering a much-needed solution to the overburdened Serian Hospital.

Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said that the clinic is currently awaiting the final clearance, a crucial Occupancy Permit (OP) from the Fire and Rescue Department following a safety inspection.

Once approved, he said the state-of-the-art facility will begin serving the community, alleviating pressure on Serian Hospital’s overcrowded outpatient department.

“Although the Deputy Health Minister previously suggested the clinic could open by November, we are now approaching October, and it seems that timeline may be delayed slightly.

“We’re waiting on the OP from the Fire and Rescue Department to ensure the clinic meets all safety requirements.

“I can’t give a precise date—it’s not my place—but my hope is that we can have it operational by the first quarter of 2025,” he said.

He told reporters this after attending the opening ceremony of Health Carnival in Celebration of Sarawak-level Nutrition Month and Healthy Malaysia Nasional Agenda (ANMS) 2024 at Serian Conference Centre today.

The new Serian Health Clinic, located strategically to serve the constituency, will offer more than just outpatient services.

The clinic will house multiple departments, including the Maternal and Child Health Clinic, shifting key services from Serian Hospital to this new, spacious facility.

In June, Riot had visited the site, sharing his confidence in the project and the benefits it would bring to local healthcare.

During his visit, he promised that the community would be well informed of the clinic’s progress, with plans for a town hall meeting involving community leaders and village heads to keep everyone updated.
