KUCHING: “Be good over there, oh God why would people do this to you? (Bait-bait nak di sinun, Ya Allah kenak orang polah kitak macam tuk?)”
These were the anguished words of 82-year-old Harian Bujang, grandmother of murder victim Nurul Asikin Lan, fondly known as Amoy, during her funeral at Samariang Islamic Cemetery on Thursday (Dec 19).
Harian, visibly overcome with grief, collapsed while embracing Amoy’s tombstone after the burial around 1.30pm and had to be consoled by family members.
Amoy’s mother, Nasib Kantok, 60, also collapsed and had to be helped by the crowd when the body of her eldest child arrived at the cemetery.
Tears flowed among the 200-strong crowd, including family members, who gathered to pay their last respects as they witnessed the heart-wrenching scenes at the graveside.
The body of 28-year-old Amoy was earlier taken to the Raudhatul Sakinah Complex for prayers before being transported to the cemetery.
Amoy’s remains were discovered last Sunday (Dec 15) in a drain near a garbage dump site in Jalan Setia Raja. She is believed to have been murdered.
Police managed to arrest a 23-year-old local man in connection with her disappearance and death, and the suspect is being remanded until Dec 22 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
