MIRI: Soaring temperatures have driven reptiles out of their natural habitats, with two separate snake incidents reported in Marudi and Krokop 9 today (July 29).

A three-metre-long cobra was discovered lurking beneath a kitchen table in a longhouse in Marudi this morning.

The python is being rescued.

The Marudi Fire and Rescue Department responded to a distress call at 6.54 am and safely removed the venomous creature.

Meanwhile, a one-metre-long python was found coiled on a toilet grill at a kindergarten in Krokop 9.

The Miri Civil Defence Force (APM) was alerted to the situation at 8.49am and successfully captured the reptile.

Both snakes were subsequently released back into their natural habitat.
