SIBU: The traffic congestion along Jalan Oya from the Pahlawan traffic light junction, to Jalan Deshon traffic light intersection will be a thing of the past as that part of the road
will be upgraded into a dual carriageway under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Sibu MP Oscar Ling in a statement issued yesterday said that the work would be carried out by the Land and Survey Department.
He added that part of the road had been heavily congested in the recent years due to the increased flow of traffic.
“Even though the problem persisted for years, no action has been taken by the relevant department until the upgrading work was approved recently under the 11th Malaysia Plan, but the actual construction will only start under the 12MP,” said Ling.
The 12th Malaysia Plan will be implemented from 2021 until 2025. Under the 11th Malaysia Plan, only the land acquisition will be carried out due to limited fund.
Ling said that he would continue to monitor the project.
He also urged the state government to expedite the upgrading project so that Sibu folk would no longer have to suffer due to the traffic jam.
