KUCHING: A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a 10-tonne lorry overturned onto him at a traffic light here yesterday.
The lorry ferrying earth was turning into Taman Malihah from Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang when it overturned onto the opposite lane spilling all the earth. The motorcyclist, a Myvi and a Kancil were on the opposite lane waiting for the traffic light to proceed to their respective routes.
Fire and Rescue personnel were then rushed to the scene to release the trapped motorcyclist using a hydraulic jack. The 40-year-old victim was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital and has since been placed in the Red Zone.
Meanwhile, the drivers of the three vehicles escaped with minor injuries.
The accident had caused a massive congestion and the traffic police were called to direct the flow of traffic.
In an unrelated incident, firemen in Kota Samarahan managed to control a blaze from razing a single-storey house on Thursday night.
The fire was spotted by the neighbours who saw smoke coming out from the sitting room at about 7.30pm.
At the time of the incident, the houseowner was not at home. It was reported that 30 per cent of the house was razed.
