KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat has had a busy weekend, visiting his constituents and inspecting projects.

The projects are undertaken by the Public Works Department (JKR) through his Minor Rural Project (MRP) or Rural Transformation Project (RTP) fund.

Accompanying Jamit were his son Douglas Jamit and staff from GPS-PBB Bukit Goram Cochran Alwi and Ambrose Abong, including pressmen.

One of the projects is the ongoing road upgrading undertaken by Kapit JKR in Sungai Yong.

The gravel road from the junction of Jalan Sungai Yong to Jalan Rumah Ngelai was constructed and completed early last year, benefiting 36 families.

“Initially this road was constructed under my RTP fund and completed early last year. Early this year, I requested Kapit JKR to upgrade the road surface and this was approved. The work is progressing well and ongoing. I thank the JKR,” explained Jamit.

“I am very happy all the longhouses along Jalan Kapit Song is connected by the feeder road to the main road. Even the last two longhouses at Sungai Yong namely Rumah Ngelai Ampas, Sungai Yong and Rumah Roland Bangau, Sungai Tisa are now connected.

“On the other side of Rajang River, Jalan Sungai Melipis has been upgraded to R3 standard since earlier this year. Jalan Sungai Menuan is ongoing while the proposed Jalan Sungai Ibau is ready soon,” said Jamit.

“Now, I focus on road development to connect all longhouses along the rural rivers. When there is road, they can be connected with electricity supply from the state grid. Next, is to plan for socioeconomic activities to develop the land to generate income and add value to the land.”

Jamit also inspected the newly-completed site levelling of the proposed new 36-door Rumah Ngelai Ampas along Sungai Yong, which is about 45 minutes’ drive from Kapit.

Jamit added that the site levelling was one of his 2019 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) that cost RM300,000.
