MIRI: A 39-year-old man has been detained by the police for allegedly threatening a man with a knife during a robbery bid on Saturday.

In the 10am incident in Taman Jade Manis here, the victim sustained cut injuries.

According to a police source, the victim had just stepped out from a bank in the area when he was suddenly approached by the suspect armed with a knife.

Scuffled ensued between the two and after struggling for a moment, the suspect fled off the scene.

The victim had immediately lodged a police report over the incident.

Acting on the report lodged, in less than five hours later, a team of personnel from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) managed to track down and detain the suspect in front of a shop along North Yu Seng Road.

The suspect also led the police to a monsoon drain along Jalan Bendahara where he threw the knife he used in the incident.

Miri Police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed the arrest made.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
