Pilots live to tell their tale
KUCHING: A Bell 206 helicopter crashed in flight yesterday but its two pilots miraculously emerged from the wreckage alive.
A spokesman of the Marudi Civil Aviation Department identified the survivors of the 5.57pm incident as Captain Mohd Dom Wahab and Captain Muhd Amirul Asraf.
“Both men are safe and will be evacuated by land route,” the spokesman said, adding before the crash, the two pilots had safely ferried three staffers of the Land and Survey Department who were on a survey assignment in Marudi.
The helicopter was on its way to its base camp in the Marudi-Brunei border when it went down.
It is understood that the helicopter belongs to Sabah Air.
Marudi police chief DSP Jo Hang confirmed the crash when contacted yesterday.
