Casio G-Shock is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its signature ‘Baby-G’ model, with a little help from Hello Kitty.
The watch brand has recruited the Sanrio-owned Japanese cartoon character to collaborate on a special-edition series of women’s timepieces that draw inspiration from the feline franchise’s iconic ‘Pink Quilt’ series from the ‘90s. Hello Kitty celebrated its own 44th anniversary in November of last year.
The collaboration comprises two versions of the original BGA150 watch model, in pastel pink and white hues. The watches incorporate design details from both brands, such as the Baby-G 25th anniversary logo, flower-shaped metal embellishment and illustrations of Hello Kitty’s face scrawled over the watch face. Both watches boast water resistance and shock resistance up to 100 meters and will launch at select retailers from April.
The Baby-G was first introduced in 1994 and went on to become an instant teenage classic, thanks to its digital features and chunky yet feminine aesthetic. And the Hello Kitty collaboration is not the only way Casio is honoring the milestone birthday of its iconic timepiece — it has also released a revamped version of its original DW520 model, dubbed the ‘BGD525’, which references the ‘90s via a semi-transparent case and band and blue and pink design accents.
The launch is the latest in a string of high-profile releases from Casio’s G-Shock, which unveiled a new collection with the US fashion brand Alice + Olivia earlier this month, and teamed up with the American rapper A$AP Ferg on a collaboration last November. – Relaxnews
