SERIAN: Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sindang Bada has proposed the establishment of a Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) in the constituency.

Dr Sindang said the facility was needed to better assist the underprivileged, particularly the elderly population.

“The Social Welfare Department (JKM) should study the number of people in Tebedu district who require these services.

“This extends beyond Tebedu to include Serian and Siburan as well, given the significant elderly population and those in need of assistance,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Outreach Programme: Santuni Komuniti (POSKOM) Serian Division in Kampung Pichin recently.

POSKOM is a programme designed to connect with target groups and community leaders to better understand the needs of communities requiring government aid.

This year’s programme, held across eight divisions in May and June, saw a total of 5,579 participants.
The programme included areas like Kapit, Sri Aman (Lubok Antu), Kuching (Sematan), Sarikei, Sibu, Miri, Mukah, and Samarahan.

“POSKOM allows for direct interaction, making it easier for residents to access information and reducing communication gaps or discrepancies.

“This two-way communication can help address negative perceptions of JKM services,” he added.

He hoped that POSKOM would continue to serve as a platform for communities to receive accurate, timely, and up-to-date information from the department.
