KUCHING: Local associations or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are encouraged to give back to the underprivileged via charitable activities.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said it is a noble act and is commendable.
“The help will mean a lot to the deserving ones as it would ease their burdens, especially in conjunction with the upcoming festive seasons,” said Lo during the ‘Yadim Peduli Bantuan Ramadan/Aidilfitri’ programme organised by the Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) Sarawak at Dewan Kampung Bunga Rampai here on Sunday (May 9).
“No matter how big or small the donation is, it doesn’t matter as long as it will reduce the burdens of those concerned,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lo praised Yadim’s effort in organising the donation programme to help those who are in need prepare for the Hari Raya celebration, and hope that other NGOs can do the same.
Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman, said if there are more programmes like this, everyone across the state or country will have enough to eat.
A total 30 villagers from Kampung Bunga Rampai, Kampung Lidah Tanah, Kampung Keranji, Kampung Batu Kitang, Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya and Kampung Bukit Panchor received their assistance during the programme.
Also present was Yadim Sarawak Director Awang Dulhadi Awang Mat.
