SARIKEI: Parents, teachers, and students should play a role in promoting the Sarawak government’s free tertiary education initiative by 2026 to ensure everyone benefits from it.

Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the Sarawak government not only provides free education but also offers numerous other initiatives to enhance education, such as the development of the TEGAS Digital Nomad Lodge and more.

He commended the Project of Dreams Realised (Pro-DR) 2024 Sarikei Roadshow, saying the programme is an effective way to give early exposure to students at the school level.

“Through this forum, students can understand the importance of every action taken to enjoy the free education provided by the Sarawak government.

“In addition, children, parents, and teachers can also share information about this initiative to ensure that Sarawak’s youth receive the latest updates on every opportunity offered by the government,” he said when officiating at the Pro-DR 2024 Sarikei Roadshow at Dewan Sentral Sarikei today.

The one-day roadshow was attended by over 358 students from six schools in the constituency.

Besides introducing students to educational and career opportunities, the programe also provided insights into job prospects.

TEGAS CEO Udin Bujang in order to support the state’s economic growth through a highly skilled workforce, various agencies and institutes collaborated to make the roadshow a success.

“With various institutions and agencies present today, I urge all students in this hall to be proactive in asking questions to the representatives of these agencies and institutions.

“Students should be open-minded and independent, possessing soft skills, especially in communication, creative, critical, and innovative thinking to advance.

“I would like to remind students that they cannot lag behind in this modern era. They must think outside the box to become holistic and well-rounded individuals,” he said.

He added that the Pro-DR roadshow should not be viewed as just an event but as a mechanism to prepare students by providing early exposure to educational and career opportunities aligned with their skills and interests.
