KUCHING: “Cendol Segera” (Instant Cendol) is among the unique Sarawak products being showcased at an exhibition at the Old Kuching Smart Heritage Agenda event held at the Waterfront Kuching here.
“Cendol Segera”, believed to be the first such invention in Malaysia, was initiated by Zamahari Saidi with support from Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) as a community project for Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar.
Manning the “Cendol Segera” booth today were three ladies from Kampong Sungai Bedil Besar, who proudly briefed New Sarawak Tribune on the product.
One of them, Fatimah @ Juwita Joli, 62, said there were three versions of “Cendol Segera”, namely, Dried, Instant and Cendol Crackers.
“The cendol can be stored at room temperature,” she explained, adding the Dried Cendol was packed together with palm sugar and coconut milk powder to create “Cendol Segera” or “Instant Cendol”.
“As an iconic Malaysia Heritage dessert, the product has vast potential in the market,” she pointed out.
“In the Malaysia Agriculture Horticulture and Agrotourism 2018, the product was a popular hit and in the same year, the product won three awards during Mardi Innovation Day,” said Fatimah.
The Old Kuching Smart Heritage Agenda event, organised by Sarawak Tourism, DBKU and Sarawak Multimedia Authority, takes place at the Kuching Waterfront from March 25 – 31 at 9am till 10pm.
