KUCHING: Renowned Malaysian singer Herman Tino is set to perform at the upcoming State Banquet in conjunction with the 78th Birthday Celebration of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
Deputy Minister of Transport II (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said that the singer’s presence would add a personal touch to the event for the Head of State.
“We want to play something that is of his taste, that is important and a salient point that he mentioned to us,” he told reporters after officiating at the Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching’s (Pewarta) Etiquette Workshop for Journalists 2024 held at Imperial Hotel today (Sept 30).
Harry is also the minister-in-charge for the state banquet.
The State Banquet, scheduled for Oct 12 at the Dewan Santapan in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex, will feature performances, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a fireworks display.
Approximately 400 guests are expected to attend.
In addition to the banquet, several other events are planned to celebrate Wan Junaidi’s birthday from Oct 10 to 13.
A thanksgiving ceremony will be held at Masjid Jamek on Oct 10, followed by a special sermon during Friday prayers on Oct 11.
An interfaith thanksgiving ceremony will also take place on Oct 11 at Riverside Majestic.
A ceremonial parade and grand assembly will be held at Padang Merdeka on Oct 12, followed by the conferral of state honours at Astana Negeri Sarawak.
The celebration will conclude with a tea reception at Riverside Majestic Hotel on Oct 13.
The celebration will be broadcast live on TVS, Astro channel 122, MyTV, and streamed on the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) Facebook page and UKAS Channel on YouTube.
This marks the first official birthday celebration for Wan Junaidi since his appointment as Head of State on January 26, 2024.
