SIBU: A quick-thinking tenant prevented a wooden house at Jalan Poh Yew from being completely destroyed by fire this morning.

No injuries were reported as three tenants managed to escape unharmed.

Bomba hero Morgan Tegap Billy gives a thumbs up with the fire operation commander at the scene.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said that firefighters from Sibu central station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 11.44am.

“However, upon arrival, they found the fire had already been extinguished by one of the tenants using two fire extinguishers.

“Morgan Tegap Billy, 36, is a Bomba hero as he showed remarkable bravery by putting out the fire, which had spread to the ceiling, using two fire extinguishers,” he said.

Firefighters took over the scene to ensure that there is no risk of reignition after the fire caused 30 per cent damages to the walls and ceiling of the house.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 12.35pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
