SIBU: Esports gold medallist Nadrah Saufi returned home to a hero’s welcome at Sibu Airport here last night.

The Sarawakian gamer bagged a gold medal in Dota 2 after her team defeated the England team at the inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships (CEC) 2022 last week.

She was welcomed by her family members, the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Sibu Division Esport Association (SDESA), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) youth and Rumpun Pewaris Sibu among others.

Nadrah’s father, Saufi Sepawi, 59, was beaming with pride with her daughter’s achievement.

“We are talking about world-class competition, of course, I’m not expecting it you know (the competition) is quite hard. Not many can achieve this for the country as well as university,” he told reporters.

Saufi said his 25-years-old daughter has been good at keeping a balance between her study and her passion in gaming.

“As a parent, of course, we want her to balance things between her study and her hobby. She has been playing games for quite some time and as you know this cannot happen overnight.

“This game is not about just playing; it is about your developing your mind and strategy. You must have a strong mentality.

“I don’t worry much because she can divide her time playing and studying,” he said.

Nadrah’s flight from Kuala Lumpur landed safely at 9.30pm last night.

Also present were UTS Head Manager of Student Development and Services Lu Yew King.
