LUNDU: A suspected burglar was arrested after he was found hiding in the ceiling of a house he broke into at Kampung Tanjam.
The 59-year-old home owner was away when the incident took place at about 9.45pm on Friday when he was alerted to a burglary and contacted the police.
Lundu district police chief DSP Wong Chee Leong said the 38-year-old suspect could not escape because the house was surrounded by villagers and police.
“Realising the presence of the police, the suspect climbed to the ceiling and hid there.
“Police searched for the suspect in the house that had been ransacked and found him hiding in the ceiling on the property.
“The police persuaded the suspect to climb down from the ceiling, but he acted aggressively which led to a scuffle with the police.
“In the melee, the suspect fell to the ground and broke his hand,” he said when contacted.
On further inspections, police found items placed in a backpack belonging to the suspect, a motorcycle and other items believed to be used for the break-in.
“These items were seized as case evidence and the suspect has been remanded for four days to starting yesterday to facilitate police investigation,” he pointed out.
