SELANGAU: Relevant authorities are now on high alert and ready to render assistance should floods hit the Selangau area, said Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
In giving this assurance, Gira said a meeting was conducted with the district office official as well as Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) regarding this matter.
“Up to date, no temporary relief centre (PPS) has been open. In Selangau, the areas that are prone to flooding are the Sungai Mukah area, Batang Oya, and Balingian.
“These places are the ones that are usually affected,” he said when met by reporters during a thanksgiving ceremony held in conjunction with the late Penghulu Imban’s Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) award, which confers the title “Dato” here yesterday (March 4).
Meanwhile, when asked about the location identified for PPS to be opened, Gira said that Selangau community hall, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tong Ah hall, and Sekuau community hall are the possible evacuation centres that could be activated at any time should the need arises.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) through a multiple analysis shared that the current rainy weather is expected to continue until the end of March.
MetMalaysia predicted severe weather especially on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, west Sarawak and north Sabah.
