KUCHING: Anticipation is building up across Sarawak as preparations for the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI Sarawak 2024 move into high gear.
At this stage, athletes are pushing their limits in training, refining their skills, and perfecting their strategies, all focused on delivering peak performance when the games commence.
Coaches are meticulously crafting game plans, motivating their teams with tailored strategies, and ensuring every detail is fine-tuned.
At Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), preparations for the SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 village at Kolej Allamanda are in full swing.
This site will be a crucial hub, offering essential accommodation and support for athletes and coaches throughout the games.
Additionally, UNIMAS is one of five strategically located SUKMA villages, with the others at Desa Sanyan in Sibu, UiTM Mukah Campus, UPM Bintulu, and IKBN Miri, all designed to provide seamless logistics and top-notch facilities.
Meanwhile, Miri Airport is bustling with activity as SUKMA XXI promotional banners are being installed, creating an exciting atmosphere for the upcoming event.
Running from August 17 to 24, the games will feature 37 sports and 484 events. Miri will host six thrilling events, including sailing, rugby, fencing, karate, softball, and silat, showcasing the top athletic talent across the country.
Behind the scenes, the technical crew is working tirelessly to manage every logistical detail, from setting up cutting-edge facilities to coordinating complex event schedules.
As the opening ceremony approaches, there is an infectious enthusiasm and sense of community that are setting the stage for a thrilling sports festival, promising an unforgettable celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Entrepreneur Mohd Amirul Fahmi, expects the SUKMA Games to showcase the incredible talent and determination of young athletes from across Malaysia, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
“I’m particularly looking forward to the exciting competitions in boxing, muay Thai, and e-sports, which promise to deliver thrilling performances and memorable moments,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.
SUKMA supporter Siew Chung Lee, who is also an entrepreneur, is eagerly anticipating the basketball matches at the meet. Passionate about the sport, Siew is excited to see top-level basketball and new talents in action.
“I’m excited to watch the basketball matches because there have been so many talented players emerging from various states in recent years. I can’t wait to see these players shine on the national stage,” he added.
As the event approaches, Siew looks forward to cheering on favourite teams and players, believing basketball will be a key highlight.
