High income status hinges on fit society

MIRI: State Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin is hoping to see more people in the division taking up leisure and sports activities to improve their health and well-being.

Speaking at the launching of the Miri-level Sarawak X-Tive 2022 at here on Saturday, he called on the people to therefore take an active approach given the physical and mental benefits of sports activities.

“Communities that participate in sports develop strong social bonds among one another, apart from building communities who are fit,” he said, adding, “as we approach the year 2030, we need communities that are fit to achieve a high-income and develop the State’s status.”

Lee who launched the Miri-level event also emphasised the important role of community leaders and elected representatives in promoting physical activity among the communities in their respective areas. 

Also present at the launching were  Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, Telang Usan Assemblyman Dennis Ngau, Acting Miri Resident Jamalie Busri and acting  enforcement officer of the Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Sarawak Miri division (MYSED)  Nor Khalida Abu Bakar.
