SARAWAK recorded 1,391 cases of cybercrimes involving women during the period of 2022 to October this year.
Minister for Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the number of such cases is very alarming.
“For the period 2022 until October 2023, the Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) recorded as many 1,391 or 52 percent cases out of 2,682 cybercrime cases involved women,” she said.
She said this when delivering her ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Tuesday (Nov 28).
Fatimah said the Anti-Scam Literacy (ASL) was introduced to raise awareness about cyber law, where the course was held in Bintulu and Kuching and attended by 402 participants.
“The ministry through the Women and Family Department Sarawak (JKWS) will continue to collaborate with strategic partners to empower Sarawakian women.
“It also aims to preserve the family through social innovation inclusion initiatives in line with the aspirations of Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 for the social service sector,” she said.
On a related note, she said in creating a society that is knowledgeable and sensitive about the rights, legislation and safety of women and families, the ministry through JWKS would continue to collaborate with strategic partners in the implementation of various safety and rights awareness programmes for women and families.
“Three courses that will be carried out this year are; Know Your Rights, Family and Women Safety (FAWS) and Basic Psychological Helping Skills.
“Additionally, new courses that were also introduced this year are Pocket Talks, ASL and Digital Literacy for Elderly Women,” she said.
