LIMBANG: Ecotourism packages here should highlight the culture of the Bisaya community.
In making the suggestion Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said these could be combined with the adventure package to the Head Hunters’ Trail in Gunung Mulu National Park.
He noted that the Head Hunter’s Trail package also promotes cultural elements as part of the travel experience.
“Therefore, the cultural customs of the Bisaya community can be highlighted as a tourism product to boost the tourism industry in the Limbang Division, thereby contributing to the socio-economic improvement and standard of living of the local residents.
“Thus, by combining these packages, it would be easier for travel agencies to promote the ecotourism products of the Bisaya community in the Batu Danau area,” he said at the Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race on Saturday.
His speech was read by federal Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, who is Limbang MP.
To create opportunities for the Bisaya community to be involved in organised ecotourism activities, Karim will direct the Limbang Divisional Tourism Task Force to cooperate with the Bisaya Association of Sarawak.
He assured that the task force will prepare a management plan and an ecotourism action plan for the Batu Danau area.
This initiative, he said, is to support the overall Limbang Division Ecotourism Plan.
“I hope that through this plan, destinations that can be developed into tourism products in this area will be identified, promoted, and become major attractions in Sarawak,” he added.
Additionally, he assured that the ministry will continue to support the organisation of the Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race in the future.
The ministry, he said, is committed to ensuring this event continues to grow and benefit the community, as well as attract more local and foreign tourists to Sarawak.
“This is because the Babulang Festival and Buffalo Race are important events and tourism products with great potential in Northern Sarawak,” he said.
