KUCHING: Engineering, Law, Accountancy, Animation and Early Childhood courses are currently highly demanded at institutions of higher learning here.
Engineering courses are high in demand, particularly in Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, due to most parents’ preference for sending their children to obtain an Australian certificate while some are following their friends’ choices.
Law courses at SEGi College Sarawak offer a route for students to pursue their degree in law in the University of London for those who are looking to further their studies.
Meanwhile, the Accountancy course offered at Sunway College Sarawak has platinum status awarded by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
According to Wallace Wong, the Senior Education Counsellor (Marketing), Sunway College, the reason that accounting courses are high in demand at the campus is due to students’ ambitions of becoming a chartered, professional accountant.
“Our campus has a very high passing rate when it comes to accounting courses and the lecturers play a big role in helping students to achieve such results,” Wallace added.
John Bernard, a member of the Marketing Department of Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology, said that Animation courses were high in demand because students were following their friends in taking up the courses.
Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) is high on demand in Kuching, according to Christiane Rabong, the Head of Corporate Marketing and Media Department of Sidma College Sarawak.
The early childhood education is a course that teaches students to take care of children. The diploma programme is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and practical knowledge as well as preparing the students to meet the demands and challenges of the teaching profession at the nursery and preschool levels.
Graduate students’ employment prospects are diverse, from kindergarten teachers, children’s event organisers, entrepreneurship and childcare assistants.
Colleges such as Sidma has partnership with SeDidik and Kemas to help take care of children and to develop and hone their students’ skills and knowledge in their education.
The early childhood education and care is essential for children because it provides them with the most basic yet fundamental requirements such as reading and writing which are essential for formal education.
