KUCHING: The demand for skilled workers in the oil and gas industry is very much-needed nowadays, said Nor Hisham Mohd Arifin, who is chief executive officer of SRC Global Resources Sdn. Bhd.
“Similarly this is also the case with the labour demand for scaffolding skills in several places such as Johor, Melaka, Terengganu and Kelantan.
“Although there were constraints during the movement control order (MCO), the factory industry has rebounded when oil and gas processing operations resumed,” he said.
This was pointed out by him while speaking at the Graduation Ceremony of Group 1 2022, Oil & Gas Industry Scaffolding Programme at the Sarawak Foundation Auditorium, here, today.
Therefore, several efforts were made to provide training for youth in Sarawak, in addition to providing job opportunities to students for their future, he said.
“Today, a total of 30 students successfully completed the course training organised by SRC Global Resources.
“Not only that; they were also offered to work at the Omniwise International Company after completing the course,” he told.
Recently, Samsung Engineering has also managed to get a contract to build a Shell plant.
“This will definitely require many skilled workers in the oil and gas industry, thus providing opportunities for graduates in the field,” he explained.
Meanwhile, SRC Global Resources Corporate General Manager Mohamad Yusri Hamden said, SRC has trained and successfully produced competent workers especially in the oil and gas industry.
“Many have been successful and all this would have been impossible without the support and help from Yayasan Sarawak in helping those from disadvantaged families.
Therefore, he said, students need to take full advantage of the opportunities that have been provided and hope that the Sarawak Foundation will continue to help the youth.
Sarawak Foundation Director Mersal Abang Rosli and others were also present.
