KUCHING: The future highway connecting Limbang-Lawas will be similar to that of Cape Town, South Africa, said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In stating this, the premier also envisioned that the highway will be beautiful with the mountain views and that it will be a tourism attraction.
“We are going to have a highway between Limbang and Lawas. I can foresee that this highway is similar to the one in Cape Town, South Africa.
“However, the one that we will have will be more beautiful with the mountain views, and it will become a tourist attraction.
“Of course, its expenses will be huge, but we will do it over the course of six years,” he said when officiating the Sarawakku Sayang programme at BEM Church, Kampung Long Tuma, Lawas today.
Following this, he also stated there will be a road connecting to Miri that passes through Brunei.
“In Miri, we will build another road from Long Terawan and connect with Mount Buda. From Mount Buda, the road will go up to Limbang.
“This means that you will have two roads. This is all in our plans. In addition to that, we will also provide the power and water supply there, as it is in our long-term plan up to 2030,” he said.
In another matter, he also mentioned that this northern part of Sarawak will also have border posts for the safety of the people.
“We must have border posts here, as it is for our safety. There are too many people illegally coming into Sarawak through here.
“We need to maintain the safety of Sarawakians, and the federal minister agreed on that matter. Therefore, we will have a border post here, including in Tebedu,” he said.
