Hijauan promises to showcase talent and tradition

KUCHING: City folk will be able to witness a dance production of international standard entitled ‘Hijauan’ on July 27-28 at the  Batu Lintang Teachers Training Institute auditorium here. 

Hijauan  promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent and tradition, featuring performances from renowned dancers of Dua space Dance Theatre (Dua Space) from Kuala Lumpur.

“Hijauan is a contemporary dance production, choreographed by well-known Malaysian choreographer, Anthony Meh, inspired by the cultural abundance of Malaysia,” it said in a statement today (July25).

The event  organised by the Kuching Unity Dance Association (KUDA) is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.

“The intention of the ministry is not only to support the organisation of such events related to creative industry and performing arts, but also to encourage arts and culture to be one of the main sectors in the plan for the economic development of Sarawak,”it said.

KUDA is dedicated to promoting cultural heritage and fostering a deep appreciation for the art of dance within the community in Sarawak.

Its president, Layna Chan stated that the main aim of this event is to expand the exposure of local dancers and choreographers from different dance genres. 

It is also aimed to cultivate appreciation for the performing arts among the local communities, through collaboration with Dua space. 

“The Association is also making an effort to work hand in hand with the government and private sectors, in the effort of preparing artistes, as well as local audiences for the new Sarawak Performing Arts Centre,”it said.

The Kuching performances of Hijauan are scheduled for July 27 and 28 at 8pm. Tickets are priced at RM150, RM100, RM50, and RM30.
