KUCHING: A man died after complaining of breathing difficulties during a hike up Summit 4.5, Mount Santubong last Saturday (August 29).

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the victim was identified as Muhammad Hazwan Bakar, 24.

Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue station despatched a team of 20 firefighters to the scene after receiving a distress call on the incident at 5.20pm.

“The rescue team was divided into two groups to look for the trio, comprising two men and a woman.

“Upon arrival, the victim was found motionless. The firefighters immediately performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on him but received no response.

“The victim was taken down a steep hill with a stretcher and it took about two hours to descend from Mount Santubong summit 4.5,” the statement said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a health officer at 9.16pm.
