MIRI: Firemen rescued a 19-year-old male hiker who experienced breathing problems from Lambir National Park this afternoon.

Yong Kai Yii from Kulai, Johor was jungle trekking in the park when he suddenly had problems breathing.

The park is located at about 40 minutes’ drive from Miri City centre and Yong had gone there alone at 11.30am. He was rescued about 1.6km from the park headquarters office.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, eight firemen led by Abang Muhammad Fhazil rushed to the park after responding to an alert at 2.20pm.

Yong was immediately rushed to the Miri Hospital for medical treatment.

According to Law, the hiker was fortunate as he bumped into a foreigner from Denmark, who spotted him breathing heavily while strolling along the path.

It was Yong’s first visit to the park.
