KUCHING:  Hilton Kuching is determined to play its part in environmental sustainability by incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.

General manager Adrian Teh said Hilton Kuching is taking and putting various initiatives in place as a testament to its commitment towards a more sustainable and greener environment.

He said the hotel will continue to explore new initiatives to enhance its efforts for the environment.

“One of the critical aspects of ESG revolves around energy, water, and gas consumption. Our recent renovation had this in mind and has incorporated features that would allow us to reduce our energy, water, and gas consumption without compromising the delivery of our services or affecting clients and guests’ experience.

“We are now fitted with completely new LED lights which reduce power consumption immensely. We do not provide linen (table runner and cover) in our meeting spaces, so we reduce our laundry and logistics costs.

“We have water saving devices not only in our guest rooms, but also in ‘Heart of House’ areas to service our guests,” he said when met by reporters during the ‘Meetings Redefined: Unveiling a New Era at Hilton Kuching’ event last night (Nov 22).

Teh stressed that Hilton Kuching is reducing its plastic consumption by moving away from single-use plastics to glass instead.

“Other areas that we are focusing on include sustainable seafood and making sure that we do not buy caged eggs,” he said.

For the record, Hilton Kuching’s commitment to environmental sustainability was recognised in 2022 when it won the Gold Award for the Recycling Project with Hope Place.

The hotel’s ‘Meet with Purpose’ programme focuses on carbon offset initiatives that contribute to broader environmental goals, demonstrating a clear dedication to a greener, more sustainable future.

On the Hilton Kuching’s revamped and upgraded facilities, Teh said it is eager to explore partnerships with government and private sectors for events and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) experiences.

“With various upcoming events planned by the state government and its agencies, we are excited and look forward to being able to cater to their needs whether it is meeting and event space or accommodation,” he said.
