MIRI: The 14th edition of Borneo Jazz Festival kicked off here yesterday, hoping to rope in some 4,000 festival goers.
The festival gathers not only local musicians but also from Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, United States and more.

This year, another genre has been added — hip hop. Nearly 50 international media representatives would be camping at Coco Cabana as the festival lasts until tomorrow.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said, “One of the initiatives introduced for this year’s festival is the ‘No Use of Plastic’ within the festival venue.”

He opined that through such initiative, they would be able to instil responsible tourism among festival goers. “We want to apply the concept of ‘Leave nothing behind’ and at the same time protect our surroundings and  environment,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Lee also hoped that this festival could be a platform for local musicians especially the youths to learn more about music from international musicians.
