KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee (HSL) is distributing food packs at La Promenade Mall located along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.
The packs consist of rice, oil, salt, sugar, condensed milk, flour, biscuits, eggs, and sanitary pads for women.
HSL executive director Simon Lau said the company was responding to calls for help from Samarahan and Kuching residents.
“Some of our staff have informed that they spotted places with white flags on their way to and from work. We discussed it at work and felt that we had to do something.
“The aid comes under HSL’s ‘Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds’ corporate social responsibility, which is coordinated by corporate communications and human resources departments.
“We used to hold community outreach monthly under ‘Healthy Bodies’. Since MCO, we’ve redirected our funds and efforts, including using our marketing department, to help NGOs raise funds.”
HSL also handed out job forms during the food pack distribution to help people find work at the supermarket.
Meanwhile, Choice chief executive Dr Allan Hon said he was pleased with the programme.
“Choice entered the Samarahan market in January this year when La Promenade Mall opened. We hired locals and the majority of our customers are from nearby and Samarahan, and have been a wonderful community to us. This is the time to lend a helping hand.”
HSL is partnering with Choice Supermarket and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council for the food distribution this week from July 16 to 30, which will be distributed every Friday and Sunday at 3pm until July 30.
