KUCHING: Sarawak’s male hockey team suffered a disappointing 0-6 defeat to Perak in their opening match of the tournament held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Hockey Stadium today (Aug 17).
Despite their best efforts, the home team were unable to find the back of the net against their more experienced opponents.
Team manager Ali Rahman Rashid acknowledged the team’s shortcomings.
“We didn’t expect a 0-6 loss,” he told reporters after the match ended.
“Simple mistakes, like losing the ball when it was so close to us, cost us dearly. However, we fought hard and this setback won’t dampen the players’ spirits.”
Looking ahead to their next match against Perlis tomorrow (Aug 18), Ali hinted at changes to the lineup with a focus on attacking play.
“We aim to score against Perlis and take a step forward in the tournament,” he added.
