MIRI: About 235 people celebrated the National Day on Monday (August 31) by taking part in Merdeka Health Walk, here at Long Lama.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau was so pleased with the good response that he wants the event be held yearly.
He pointed that the inaugural Merdeka Health Walk had also attracted many participants from as far as Miri City.
The Telang Usan District Office collaborated with Long Lama Clinic Health Panel to organise the 30-km Health Walk which started from Long Lama Town and ended at Lapok Bazaar.
Dennis flagged off the event at Long Lama Town around 4am while Marudi assemblyman and Assistant Minister for Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil officiated at the closing ceremony.
The participants arrived at Lapok Bazaar around 10am.
Dennis, in his speech at the closing ceremony, praised District Officer, Baru Tai and Telang Usan District Office for organising the walk.
“One of the objectives of holding the event is to give the participants the opportunity to see for themselves progress brought by the state government,” explained Tai during the closing ceremony.
