SARATOK: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are urged to explore activities that are synonymous with the local community, apart from newer programmes that can become iconic events for Kalaka constituency.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said that he is paving the opportunities for the young generation through their respective NGOs to come up with matters that are suitable for Kalaka.
“Over a year since I become the people’s representative, I would like to see Kalaka having its own iconic event that could be showcased to the local communities as well as outsiders.
“One of them is an annual event which is Kalaka Criterium Challenge and I can see that the event is different than others, and it is unique because the race focuses on its route in the middle of the town.
“That being said, I want more iconic programmes to be held to promote Kalaka, regardless of what kind of activities, as long as it is beneficial to the local community,” he said.
He told this to reporters after attending a meeting concerning the suggestion to organise the 10.5 kilometres running challenge at Saratok.
Mohamad also mentioned the target to get the younger generation in Kalaka to be involved actively in various programme.
“We (the government) has aspirations to nurture youths with capabilities in every aspects.
“That is why I urge this group to come forward and together with the government to plan accordingly what is needed.
“It would be hard if there is no response or two-way interaction. I hope for the commitment of all especially the younger generation in realising what is wished. Insya-Allah we will pursue the effort as much as possible,” he added.
Mohamad thanked all the parties involved in giving their full commitment throughout his first year of becoming an assemblyman.
“I appreciate everybody’s role, regardless whether it is big or small to develop Kalaka. I cannot do this on my own without the support of everybody. That being said, I affirm that I am open to any suggestions, Insya-Allah,” he added.
