KANOWIT: The organisation of events such as Pesta Kanowit is an initiative to preserve our heritage and should be held annually, said Minister of National Unity Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said that his ministry also organised various other activities during Pesta Kanowit to foster unity among the public.

Among them were the Kanowit RC Boat Challenge, Fun Fair and Trade Fair, Kanowit Power Boat race, Jualan Rahmah, exhibitions by government departments and agencies, the Majlis Tradisi (Adat Miring), and the Ratu Pesta Kanowit contest.

“The Ministry of National Unity has organised various exhibitions and activities as a way for us to spread and preserve our nation’s unity and heritage.”

The Kanowit MP said this in his speech during the opening ceremony of the Kanowit Waterfront and Pesta Kanowit, which was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Kanowit Waterfront today (Sept 20).

Meanwhile, Dr Sim, when speaking to reporters, said that Pesta Kanowit was a highlight of the year for the local community.

“This is very important because it not only brings everyone together but also highlights cultural heritage and economic activities.

“The power boat competition in Pesta Kanowit is not limited to people in Kanowit; you will find participants from all over Sarawak, including Brunei, attending this event.

“And this is truly what we call ‘perpaduan’ (unity). Sarawak’s unity is an asset and this is the true spirit of unity,” he stressed.

Also present were Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana, Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong and Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman.
