KUCHING: Stranded Sarawakians will arrive home soon after being stranded in Lagos, Nigeria because of the restricted movement in that country due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Leaders from the state have shared their joys in welcoming the group home.
On Monday, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the New Sarawak Tribune that the stranded Sarawakians had left Nigeria and were now in Dubai.
“They are now in Dubai for a 12-hour stopover before flying to Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in his post also wished the group a safe journey home.
“Thank you very much to the High Commission of Malaysia in Nigeria, which is headed by Sarawakian Gloria Corina Peter Tiwet for helping our people.
“There are more than 20 of them working in the oil and gas industry and were stranded in Nigeria. Welcome home. Have a safe flight and safe quarantine,” said Sim.
One of the stranded Sarawakians from Kuching, Malcolm Goh, in his Facebook post said the group had safely arrived and will layover in Dubai before taking the next flight from Dubai to Kuala Lumpur by midnight today (June 24).
