THE state government has been urged to honour its heroes who fought during the Indonesian confrontation and the communists.
Mohd Chee Kadir (GPS-Kabong) proposed that the Sarawak Gallantry Medal Award (Anugerah Pingat Keberanian Sarawak) should be created for the purpose.
“I suggest that the award be created to honour the sacrifice that they made to protect Sarawak.
“The fighters are now mostly in retirement or are deceased,” he said in his debate on the Supply (2020) Bill, 2019 in the august House here yesterday.
The Kabong assemblyman recalled from his encounter that the ex-servicemen have made their feelings known and lamented that they are not being helped by the government.
Chee urged the state government to give its attention to the wellbeing of former policemen and security personnel through Persatuan Bekas Polis.
