MUKAH: Peter Lai Sakul received the Dalat Tokoh Guru Award 2020 at the district-level Excellence Service Awards and Teachers Retirement ceremony at a hotel resort on Saturday (Oct 24).

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah presented the award to the 70-year-old recipient.

Peter, who is also Dalat pemanca, was a Chief Minister Special Award (1996) recipient. He was also a former Dalat and Mukah District Council councillor, former Kampung Kekan ketua kaum and former penghulu.

Meanwhile, Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, said teachers need to be competent and professional because they had been trained.

“Teachers have to be excellent and knowledgeable too in order to produce excellent students,” she said when officiating at the event.

The former principal also shared important information pertaining to various government assistance, and development projects being implemented and proposed in her constituency.

The event featured the presentation of Excellence Service Awards to the recipients, and certificates to retired teachers by Fatimah.

She also handed over Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) and special annual grants (GTK).

In her welcoming speech, Dalat District Education officer Magdaline Jon shared some of the achievements recorded by the district last year.
