SIBU: In celebration of this year’s “88” Father’s Day, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Branch and the Bukit Assek Service Centre will be distributing free one-kilogramme pack of Milo to Bukit Assek constituency male voters.

Announcing this, Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek stated that the distribution would take place this coming weekend (Aug 10 and 11), from 9 am to 12 noon at the service centre.

“The event is limited to 2,000 packs, available on a first-come, first-served basis, until supplies last. Participants must bring their identification card and collect the Milo pack in person.

“The event will be held at the service centre located at 3 & 5, First Floor, Tong Sang Road Lane 1. For any inquiries, please contact the service centre during office hours at 084-313566,” he told a press conference at his service centre yesterday (Aug 8).

Chieng stated that the event aims to celebrate “88” Father’s Day and extended heartfelt greetings to the hardworking fathers within the constituency.

He expressed that fathers are the pillars of the family, and their dedication and hard work deserve his gratitude.

“Through this event, we aim to express our deep respect and appreciation to all fathers. We just would like to say, “Fathers, thank you for your hard work, and Happy 88 Father’s Day!”

“88 Father’s Day is a celebration rich in historical significance. In 1945, to commemorate the fathers who sacrificed their lives during the War World II in China, various social communities in Shanghai proposed Aug 8 as Father’s Day. The “88” in Chinese sounds like “Papa” and symbolises the greatness and selflessness of fathers”.

“This celebration not only honours fatherly love but also echoes the traditional Chinese culture of filial piety, embodying the virtue of ‘filial piety is the foremost of all virtues’. To this day, regions such as China, Taiwan and others celebrate Father’s Day on Aug 8 each year,” he said.

Chieng also emphasised that Father’s Day is not just a celebration but also an important moment to express gratitude and carry forward excellent Chinese culture.

He called on community residents to actively participate in this event and collectively celebrate the extraordinary celebration.

The event is also part of the “I Love Bukit Assek” series programmes, he said, adding that previously, on Mar 8, in celebration of International Women’s Day, SUPP Bukit Assek Branch and Bukit Assek Service Centre distributed 2,000 bottles of two-kilogramme cooking oil to female Bukit Assek voters.

He noted that these activities are very meaningful and are part of the SUPP Bukit Assek Branch’s and  Bukit Assek Service Centre’s commitment to providing quality services to community residents, caring for people’s well-being, supporting the community, and promoting community harmony and development.

“The Branch and service centre look forward to the active participation of the residents and wishes every father a Happy Father’s Day and a happy family,” Chieng concluded.
