KUCHING: Hope Place recently visited a single mother and her three children living in Muara Tuang.
The single mother, Jothi Yakut, 46, is currently struggling to provide for her children who are still in school despite being self-reliant.
Hope Place, in its statement, added that Jothi takes care of three children, with two already in higher education.
“Her eldest, 20, is studying marines under a scholarship in Kuala Lumpur. Her second, Farhan, 18, meanwhile also has a scholarship after achieving 5As in SPM and is studying engineering at UiTM in Kuching. Her youngest, nine years old, however is still in primary school.
“She is truly proud of her children and thankful for their achievement and she will try her best to give them the best,” Hope Place said.
Hope Place added that Jothi is currently earning her living by being a self-employed seamstress.
“With years of experience in making women’s clothing, children’s apparel and even cushion covers and curtains, Jothi is a trained seamstress, specialised in traditional women’s fashion like kebaya outfits.
“Now living in a rented room at Bandar Riyal, Muara Tuang,Jothi hopes her small business can pick up.
“She moved out from her relative’s house recently because she did not want to be a burden to others. We are supporting Jothi and her children with supplies of basic food aid.”
