KUCHING: Eight-month-old premature baby Naura Delisha Afeeya, who suffers from chronic lung infection, can now breathe easily in the comfort of her home, thanks to Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) or Hope Place Kuching.
Responding to a request for help from her 22-year-old mother Nurul Asyiqin, Hope Place yesterday donated a ventilator — a machine that supports breathing, commonly used in hospitals for patients with breathing difficulty.
Nurul gave birth to Naura when she was only 26 weeks pregnant.
“With the ventilator, little Naura can now breathe easily at home,” said Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan in a press statement yesterday.
Wan, who was accompanied by several other Hope Place volunteers during the visit to Nurul’s home, said Naura’s condition was pitiful.
“When we went to see her, there were noticeable swellings on several parts of her body said to be due to water retention problem. She is also on tube feeding.
Nurul’s husband works as a lorry assistant, earning only minimum wage and the couple have two other children, aged five and two. The family lives in Bandar Baru, Semariang.
Wan said the family was in the midst of applying for assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and Baitumal.
