KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching celebrates its eighth anniversary in February by giving back to community.
“Although unable to have a dinner together with all my team this year for our anniversary, all of us enjoyed working together and excited to help so many people,” said Kelvin Wan, founder of Hope Place.
“We believe it is better to give than to receive,” Wan added.
The Kuching based NGO first went to Kampung Sungai Maong delivering food aid and basic necessities such as sanitisers and face masks.
As the village was under lockdown due to the pandemic, the Social Welfare Department (JKM) assist them in distributing the aid to the villagers.
Hope Place also received calls from Siburan and Jalan Stephen Yong asking for emergency help when many areas were flooded on Thursday (Feb 18).
The aid was delivered to the people by the NGO to their homes as some were still stuck in their flooded home.
Hope Place again received urgent call for assistance at the flood centres around Kuching at 7.30pm.
Aid was handed over to Lina Jomek at Dewan Masyarakat Stapok for 88 families who were affected by the flood.
Another aid was handed over to Hamina Habli at Dewan Sinar Budi Baru in Desa Wira Batu Kawa which were received by 144 flood victims.
