KUCHING: Hope Place’s charity expedition called ‘Giving Hope, Sharing Love’ visited four villages in Lingga to hand over food aid worth over RM34,000 recently.

About 60 volunteers and 18 units of 4×4 modified trucks were involved in the expedition.

Sixty-four families in Kampung Langgir Ulu, Kampung Linggir Illi, Kampung Menuang Ulu and Kampung Menuang Illi received food items which included rice, noodles, cooking oil, biscuits, oats and milk powder.

The convoy was divided into two teams. The first team went to the jetty located at Sungai Batang Seterap to deliver the food aid to the villagers from Kampung Langgir Ulu and Kampung Langgir Illir.

The villagers in Kampung Langgir Illi plant padi but their harvests can only support them for about six months.

The second team had to travel through Pantu to reach Kampung Manuang Ulu and Kampung Menuang Illi where 30 families received the food aid.

The villagers in both villages are farmers who also plant black pepper.

Due to the uncertain pepper and padi harvests, the villagers are sometimes left with little money and food.
