KUCHING: The burden borne by Magdaline Akinche, 42, to support her family eventually became lighter with the help of Hope Place recently. Magdeline, who works as a cleaner, earns an average of RM600 a month.
Her husband, who survived a heart attack, is unable to work since 2015. The couple has two children who are still schooling and the entire family is forced to depend on Magdaline’s salary.
With the two kids’ monthly school bus fees of RM120, the family faces a lot of hardships to simply survive. Therefore, the assistance from Hope Place was really meaningful for the family.
Hope Place is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which visited the poor and less fortunate families to contribute essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits and noodles. Many families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month. Hence, many are grateful for the assistance which consists of basic necessities.
Families with children with special needs or elderly or disabled people are provided with milk powder, oats and diapers as well. Hope Place carries out its deliveries once every two months and currently supports more than 170 families.
