KUCHING: Despite the late hours, Hope Place was quick to respond to calls for help from flood victims on Monday night.
It received a request for help from Kampung Lintang Baru, Panchor Melayu, Kuching-Serian Road at around 10.30 pm.
Without delay, Hope Place reached out to volunteers to assist in packing and delivering items to the flood victims. They managed to arrive at the village at around 11.30 pm.
In total, five houses were affected and they belonged to Baini Abdullah (five victims), Sibi Chee (five victims), Helmi Sibi (seven victims), Jamani Abet (three victims), and Surina Sepawi (three victims).
According to the victims, the flood started at around 8 pm.
Upon arriving, Hope Place saw that the water level in one of the victim’s houses was up to her waist.
Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan handed over rice, biscuits, noodles, water, bath towels, Milo, coffee, and nutritional breakfasts for the children as there were six children under the age of 10.
The flood victims said it was the most serious flood that they had experienced since 2016, when the water level rose to eight feet.
