KUCHING: A paraplegic received donations in the form of food aid and a wheelchair from Hope Place on Thursday (Sept 3).

A concerned member of the public  asked the non-governmental organisation (NGO) to help a neighbour who was living alone in Kampung Chupak, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

Based on the information received, a team from Hope Place visited the man known as Embrose @ Dorek Rigud, who is currently unemployed and unable to walk properly.

Embrose, a former dispatch boy in the private sector, became a paraplegic after suffering from a stroke five years ago.

“Since then, he is unable to work and take care of himself. He has two children who are married but they live far away and seldom visit him.

“Fortunately, Embrose’s brother and sister who live next door visit  him daily. They  help him to cook, do household chores and drive him to the hospital for check-ups,” a  statement from Hope Place said.

The Hope Place team also found out that Embrose and his siblings are living off the land by planting padi.
