KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching recently supported Salina Mustapa, a resilient 37-year-old single mother from Kampung Temenggong, after her struggles raising two children on a modest income from her roti canai stall job came to light.
After tragically losing her husband in an accident when her children were still very young, Salina now supports her family by working at a roti canai stall, where her daily income — up to RM30 on a good day — depends on the stall’s sales.
Unfortunately, Salina’s earnings are barely enough to cover her expenses. RM250 of her monthly income goes toward renting a motorbike, her only means of transportation for the long commute from Kampung Temenggong to Matang Jaya.
Furthermore, Salina must cover an additional RM100 each month for her children’s school bus fees, made higher because they attend different schools; however, she is thankful for the RM300 in monthly support from social welfare and Baitumal, as well as the essential food aid from Hope Place, all of which help her family make ends meet.
