KUCHING: His wife hides herself away in the room much of the time; his adult daughter is schizophrenic and his youngest son is still in school.
All said, life has been challenging for 63-year-old Bong Tze Kiun who can only count on another son, aged 29, to bring in some money for the family upkeep.
But this has also been patchy with his son only drawing daily wages as a construction worker.
So to supplement food on the table Bong frequently scours for wild vegetables in the woods.
That is in between bringing his 36-year-old daughter for her monthly hospital injections and taking his wife who is suspected of having a mental ailment for check-ups and also ensuring his youngest son attends school and focuses on his studies.
The family’s tough situation was referred to Hope Place Kuching by a social worker from Hospital Sentosa recently.
Thankfully, with the support of generous donors, the non governmental organisation reached out to the family at their Batu Kawa home, bringing much needed food supplies.
Hope Place Kuching has since been providing consistent food supplies to this family.
